Best Ever Week!
This Canal trip down the Midi exceeded all our expectations mostly due to the outstanding crew! We felt like family! (The Guide) was so much fun and taught us so much about the region. She made every outing an interesting and enjoyable experience. (The Chef) was given his 8th Michelin Star by us for his unbelievable meals! He even included cooking lessons and recipes! Best Ever week of cuisine. (The Hostess) was over the top with her attention to detail in every category from table settings to bedroom and bath details. We felt very spoilt by her A++ service and what a sweetheart!! (The Pilot) kept us a”float” with his expert stewardship! He also gave “pilot” lessons to a few of our crew always with a smile on his face. What stood out to me was the camaraderie among the crew and also us! We shared our lives and felt so much a part of theirs. It was truly a special trip and as we pass along our stories to friends expect to see more “bargies” from Boise, Idaho!

Part 1. How do we begin to say thank you on such an incredible week. (The Guide’s) humour and enthusiasm was a refreshing start. (The Hostess’s) constant attention to detail making sure we had everything (and more) that we needed. (The Pilot’s) superb boat handling, kindness and generosity in letting “the boys” be Captains was beyond imagination. Oh and then there were the constant gourmet meals artistically presented by (the Chef) and napkin folding and table setting by (the Hostess) – the Canal and passages through the locks was amazing – we loved it all, along with the thoughtful side trips introducing us to this beautiful area. Merci beaucoup to all and the beautiful Roi Soleil.
Part 2. So many thanks to our wonderful crew. We have had such a memorable trip that was truly enhanced by all of you. (The Guide) your guiding was so fun, adventurous and we love your knowledge and humour. (The Hostess), we are grateful for your gracious hospitality, drinks, coffee and the ultimate room cleaning. (The Pilot) you were a great Captain, fun, informative, capable and shared the steering with novices. And (the Chef) what can we say – the food was simply glorious, so much admiration for your skill and presentation and most of all, you all showing us the amazing Canal du Midi in all its glory. 1.Roi Soleil, This was a bucket list trip to celebrate 2 birthdays and it did not disappoint! It went by so quickly. Every day was terrific, the locks, the laughs, the excursions and OMG, the food! 1. The magical team of four made the vacation for six! You individually contributed to making our week one of the most memorable of all time. We toured the most fascinating places, ate the “delicious” everything, drank the fruits of the valleys and fields, were pampered with our beautiful rooms and table settings, and loved watching the barge negotiate every twist and turn. 2. This trip, and our experience, was in the realm of absolute fantasy. Each of you should be so proud of your competence, kindness, proficiency and grit. I am filled with gratitude for this long awaited vacation aboard the beautiful “Roi Soleil”! The spectacular weather, scenery, daily excursions boat and extraordinary crew all made for a trip that was far beyond our expectations. The food and friendly, attentive service was the best! We won’t forget floating happily down the Canal, with lunch, wine and full stomachs – and much laughter. Starting the trip with the oyster tour such a treat, I can’t think of a better way to experience Southern France. Many thanks to (Chef, Guide, Pilot and Hostess) for making this such a special experience.
Brilliant! All aspects of the Rio Soleil, Canal du Midi, French countryside, history, fantastic weather, but most importantly our fabulous crew! (the Pilot) is a consummate captain, (the hostess) all hands on deck all the time, (chef) chef de cuisine extraordinaire and our tour guide, last but not least (guide). Where to start? We have been dreaming of this week – and it did not disappoint, in fact, it far exceeded all of our expectations. From the moment that (the Guide) picked us up til now, at the conclusion of our last glorious dinner, we sit here content – smiling, and ever so grateful. You all work together beautifully as a team and your warmth and enthusiasm is contagious. (The Guide) – you are so warm, and exuberant and knowledgable. (The Chef) – what a virtuoso chef and artist. (The Hostess) – a calm and lovely presence who magically appears to provide your every need. (The Pilot) – we always felt safe and secure and enjoyed friendly visits with you in the wheel house. Thanks for putting up with us blocking your view through the locks and accidentally grabbing the wheel as we passed. You are patient and so kind. Thank you all for a fabulous, fun, beautiful, and forever memorable week on the Roi Soleil.

1: The staff was amazing. The boat manager / tour guide, chef, pilot and hostess fulfilled their roles with utmost professionalism and fun. Better yet … they worked so well as a team. They were constantly helping others when they had a bit of down time. They were kind and courteous, helpful and fun !!! Our group wanted to take all of them back to the US with us … haha!
2: The food was out of this world! Our group contains big “foodies” and they couldn’t say enough wonderful things about the Chef and his awesome creations!
3: The Tour Guide, boat manager was so fun. She was always willing to seek out options for us for sightseeing and took into consideration our likes and dislikes. She went above and beyond to ensure we had a spectacular cruise!!
4: The Pilot and Hostess were both equally wonderful to be with. They both were so accommodating and made sure our rooms were always tidy, etc. The Pilot is an amazing pilot going through many locks with a vessel that barely fits!!! He was willing to dock when we wanted to bike, etc.
5: The Roi Soleil is so very lovely!! It was quite cold when we started the cruise and quite warm by the time we ended. Nothing but wonderful things to say!!

How was your cabin? Exceptional. Beautiful, spcaciopus, immaculate.
How were the crew? Exceptional. Friendly and professional, and each an expert in their field.
What did you enjoy the most and least about the daily excursions? I loved the daily excursions! For me, touring in the morning and having the afternoon to lounge and cruise was perfect. There is nothing negative to share; it was amazing!
What was your feedback about the cuisine? I could write a book! Toby is an amazing chef! The food was a feast for all the senses, beautiful, complex and delicious. And a fantastic variety, too. Don’t get me started on the deliciousness of the bread and cheeses. And I applaud the portion sizes! Not too big, so we could enjoy all the delicious courses. Absolutely wonderful.
What can be done to improve the overall experience? I am a big believer in feedback, but in this case I have none to give. I don’t think the experience could have been improved. It was perfection on Earth!
How would you sum up your barge cruise experience? Perfect. Wonderful, relaxing, informative, delicious, special. At times I think we were almost giddy! An experience all of us will treasure.

“Team Roi Soleil – Being on a yacht is always a treat and Roi Soleil did not disappoint in that regard. BUT, what sets this particular ‘hotel barge’ apart is its team. They are beyond 5 star in all aspects. (Pilot) guided us safely along the Canal and the locks, but his astute knowledge of piloting a 100 foot barge while booting poachers at our tie-up locations was a new experience! (Chef) is simply an amazing chef that served up Michelin meals for every seating of lunch and dinner. His imagination in combining flavours and tastes surpassed the incredible visual display of each dish. (Hostess) was a delight who was the glue for the whole crew. Always striving to please, must be her motto as she never wanted for anything. She is gracious and quite caring, delivering coffee and croissants on a silver platter to the lock-keepers touched our hearts. We can’t thank her enough for everything, especially for doing laundry for us twice!! (Guide), the aspiring boat builder from Beziers and now Brittany, made each and every day memorable. Through his deep knowledge of his home and the historical aspects of Languedoc made every day and adventure. His wit, wisdom and personality will always bring a smile. Thank you for everything you guys are the best!!

With 2 teenage girls we are not really the typical clientele but the amazing crew have pivoted brilliantly and looked after us like royalty! We have had one of our most relaxing family holidays ever with a little adventure (kayaking and horseback riding) sprinkled in. “What a perfect week we all had because of each of you. Our guide, who introduced us to the incredible history of the Languedoc with lively retelling of that history – our sommelier introduced us to new and old grapes – our ‘doctor’ when we started ailing – you did it with warmth, great humor, honesty (remember the wine you didn’t like?) and always with great care. There is a children’s book series in the US called ‘Where’s Waldo’, where Waldo pops up in crowds in all sorts of places – you were like Waldo popping up everywhere!! (Chef), our incredible chef & DJ, you made every meal a gastronomic experience – feasts for all of our senses. The detail, the subtleties, the visual feasts – and most of all the enthusiasm you shared for each complex creation made every meal a joyful adventure. AND, you were the best DJ, providing music for our every mood & taste. (The Hostess), the lovely quiet member of the team who did everything – made the table beautiful with flowers plucked from the banks of the Canal (and grapes from the vines). Created more napkin designs – brought us and narrated the amazing cheese courses – steered the boat like a ballet dance doing plies – and in between, snuck down to tidy our rooms (Captain) our barefoot Captain, you made steering this large barge through the smallest of tunnels & bridges – through multiple locks, around partying inexperienced smaller boats – looks so easy. We always felt safe in your care. And, we know at least one of us was happy to have been allowed to take his turn at the wheel!! Most of all, we appreciated the way you all worked together as a team: and your willingness to share your lives with 6 crazy (old) American strangers.
